One of the upsides of running an online camera shop is that I know have a much richer knowledge of cheap and cheerful compact cameras.

Some of them are terrible, little better than disposables. Others are frustrating, promising results let down by cheap construction or shoddy ergonomics. Others show you just how little money you need to spend to get perfectly decent photos.

One such camera has dominated my recommendations for a cheap and cheerful camera the last six months – the Hanimex 35 HS.

This little camera was rebadged by Australian photography brand Hanimex in the 1980s; it was originally released as the Halina 150 by the Hong Kong company infamous for its almost-endless array of cheap cameras.
