In partnership with

Last year, Cameraburo – Kosmo Foto's online camera shop – held its first Compact Cup photowalk in London.

We got a gang of analogue photographers together for a photowalk with a difference – shoot a roll of film over the afternoon, and we would gather together a few weeks later to find a winner. Cameraburo provided the cameras (which the contestants could keep) , Kodak Alaris kindly provided everyone with a roll of Kodak Gold 200 film, and Aperture Printing developed and scanned all the films, and a print of their best shot to enter into the cup competition. And, like every cup competition, there could only be big winner…

It was so much fun that we have decided to do it all again.

Get out your diaries, as we're planning to hold the second edition on Sunday 21 June (details TBC). The voting will then take place at a party three weeks later on Saturday 11 July. There will be more details to come, and tickets will be available via Cameraburo from this Sunday (5 April).

Oh – and since this a World Cup year, we're making it bigger. We'll have 48 players, just like the actual World Cup.

Keep your eyes peeled for more details in the coming weeks here and on Kosmo Foto, and hope to see you there.

Supporting 'Advance/Rewind' and Kosmo Foto

Apart from the Cameraburo Compact Cup, Kosmo Foto has plenty of cool stuff planned for 2026. We've already published one of them – a longread looking at how the high-end film compact camera has returned, thanks to a handful of plucky companies. It includes interviews with Pentax 17 designer Takeo Suzuki and Gary Ho of MiNT Camera who produced the Rollei 35AF. You can read the feature here.

This newsletter is free, but you can help keep Kosmo Foto publishing by upgrading to our paid version for just $5 a month or $48 a year – and get exclusive posts sent to our inbox on top of the normal 'Advance/Rewind' edition.
